KEY POINTS:
The ground search for a missing Invercargill man has been suspended despite growing concerns for his well-being.
Brendan Mulder, 49, went missing last Thursday in the Otapiri Gorge area near the Southland town of Winton.
Senior Sergeant Olaf Jensen of Invercargill police told NZPA today Mr Mulder had been out with another family member when he walked off.
"It's obviously a concern. He has some health issues and he's on medication which he's not taking."
A police search and rescue mission in the area was suspended yesterday afternoon.
But Mr Jensen said the investigation was still ongoing - "background inquiries, banks, that sort of thing, and following up on sightings".
He said members of the public had come forward with possible sightings and police were in the process of confirming or excluding those sightings from the investigation.
Police were appealing to members of the public or motorists in the area to watch out for Mr Mulder.
