KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand owned grocery co-operative Foodstuffs is making a big push into the liquor market.
It has brought the retail franchise Liquorland from DB Breweries for an undisclosed sum.
The brewery says off-premises retailing is no longer core to their business.
Managing director Brian Blake says there was a competitive bidding process, but they felt Foodstuffs was the most suitable to own, support and grow the nationwide liquor chain of 70 stores.
He says the change of ownership is effective from today and it is not expected to impact the retail operations in any way.
