The principal of a Auckland girls' school has vowed to discover the identity of a drunk 15-year-old girl who appeared on a police reality show in school uniform and crying for her teddy bear.
Thursday's episode of Police Ten 7 shows North Shore Constables Dan Brockbank and Jeremy Williams responding to a call about "Paula", a teenager who was "causing trouble" at Takapuna Beach.
Dressed in a white Westlake Girls High School blouse and non-regulation tights and black shoes, the girl, whose face has been blurred, sits at a table with three males smoking a cigarette.
She yells obscenities at the two officers as they approach the group and stumbles when she stands up.
It is soon discovered that one of the people she is with, "Andy", has breached his bail conditions and he is arrested. The officers struggle to put Andy in a patrol car while another officer deals with Paula.
When she realises she is facing a trip to the station herself, she starts crying and yells: "I want my teddy bear. Can I get my teddy please? I want my f***in' teddy bear."
An officer brings her a Winnie-the-Pooh soft toy, green Westlake jersey and pink school bag saying "There's your uniform".
In the patrol car, Mr Brockbank tries to reason with Paula.
"If there was a moral for the story today, this incident being the story, what would the moral be?"
She answers: "Go to your exams." Mr Brockbank says: "You didn't go to your exams today? That's not going to do you any good, eh?
"Go sit your exams, don't get boozed up when you're 15, don't hang out with guys you don't know."
Back at the station, Mr Brockbank finds there is a missing persons alert in Paula's name. He telephones and her grandparents pick her up.
The principal of the decile 9 Milford school, Alison Gernhoefer, said she hadn't seen the show. "We've got a school of 2200 students, Year 11 have 500. I don't know a lassie called Paula."
When asked if the school would punish the student for bringing the school into disrepute, Ms Gernhoefer said: "We will certainly be making inquiries on Monday seeing as you brought it to my attention."
A Westlake student condemned the girl's actions on Facebook. Fa Muna wrote: " If you girls wanna be on Police Ten 7 please don't wear our school uniform while smoking and drinking in public and don't do it during examz."
