The family of a West Auckland boy tragically killed as he followed his father across a highway yesterday are "heart broken".
Eight-year-old Thomas Evans was hit by a car on State Highway 5 when he followed his father, Jos, across the road after their own vehicle broke down near Tirau.
Mr Evans and Thomas' mother, Suzi, were today gathered at their Huia home being supported by family and friends.
"He was much loved and we are absolutely devastated," said Mr Evans.
"Everyone is just heartbroken."
