Greytown destroyed a severely depleted Rathkeale College in their Umpires Cup Wairarapa senior inter-club limited-overs cricket match played on Saturday.
The holiday break and unavailabilities meant Rathkeale were unable to field a full complement of players and after starting with just seven they finished the game with eight.
Needless to say Greytown, the joint winners of the Umpire's Cup last season, were quick to take advantage of their woes and ran up a massive 377 in their innings. Former Wairarapa rep Josh Doherty was at his belligerent best in getting through to 143 while Willie Tatham made 74, Hay 40 and Ben Hodder 26.
A weakened Rathkeale attack was spearheaded by Tim Lucas who took 5-43 and Dean van Deventer took 3-49.
Rathkeale were then dismissed for 163 of which Brock Price made 54, Lucas 34 and Duncan Watts 32. Sharing the wickets for Greytown were Kerry Fitzgerald (2-48), Jason Osborne (2-23) and Doherty (2-34).
Red Star scored a comfortable victory over the Academy after batting first and reaching 230-9.Adam Phelps again looked in good touch in making 29 not out, Troy Burling made 27, Shane Tyacke 29 and Jared Watt 20. Jamie Hill with 3-40 was the main wicket taker for Academy while Will Rist took 2-42 and Rotman 2-20.
Academy were always struggling against an accurate Stars attack and fell well short of their target with only Rist (26) and Fleming (21) getting amongst the runs. Bowling for Red Star Peter Sigvertsen took 3-24 and Carwyn Caffell 2-9.
Lansdowne secured a seven-wicket win over Wairarapa College.
The students batted first and were all out for 140 with Butler making 37 and Monaghan 27.
Impressive bowling figures for Lansdowne were returned by Daniel Lenihan (3-15), Dean Goodin (3-8) and Aaron Bidlake (2-30).
Lansdowne reached 143 for the loss of only three wickets, thanks in the main to a hard-hit 58 by Robin James.
