Greytown U13s enjoyed a superb start to the season playing Marist under floodlights on the new artificial turf at Memorial Park.
After swapping tries in the first half, they went into the break leading 22-17, before stretching away in the second period to record a memorable 37-24 victory.
Their second game was away at Gladstone and, playing into a strong wind, they opened the scoring with a fine runaway try from halfback Pierre Jacobs.
This was soon followed by another touchdown from loose forward Robert Rossiter-Stead, who picked up from the base of a ruck on the 22m line and powered over.
First-five Willie Matthews added the conversion, but two good Gladstone tries gave them a 14-12 halftime lead.
