Former Kuranui College and Dalefield player Andy Ewington was the toast of his Monkstown club teammates after their victory in the Leinster Mills Cup final in Ireland last weekend.
Monkstown broke their 23-year senior trophy duck with a 2-1 win over Glenanne in the cup final and Ewington scored both their goals in a match which went deep into extra time.
The first Ewington goal came at the third reset from a corner with time almost up and Glenanne clinging to a 1-0 advantage.
And the second came with less than one minute of extra time left, Ewington again netting from a corner to send Monkstown players and supporters into frenzied celebrations.
Now in his third season with Monkstown, Ewington was a member of the Kuranui College first XI before playing for Dalefield in the Wellington premier men's competition.
He later moved to Palmerston North where he had two seasons playing for Manawatu and the Central National League team.
Last year, Ewington was selected to play for the New Zealand Barbarians squad which won the Oceania Pacific Cup tournament in Suva, Fiji.
