The southerners picked up the maximum five points when Puketoi defaulted to them last Saturday and they now have 15 in total, one more than East Coast, who have also won all three of their matches but failed to pick up a bonus point in their latest win (22-10) over defending Kapene Cup champions Pioneer.
Gladstone, who host Greytown on Saturday, lie third on 11, then come Martinborough and Carterton on 8, Eketahuna 7, Marist 5, Pioneer 4 and Bush Sports and Puketoi (0).
The draw for this Saturday: Bush Sports v Puketoi at Pahiatua, Gladstone v Greytown at Greytown, Marist v Eketahuna at Memorial Park, Martinborough v East Coast at Martinborough, Pioneer v Carterton at Carterton.
