He said there were great options for female shoppers but there was no specialist menswear store before they opened. "If the guys come over with their wives, there's somewhere they can go to."
Mr McKeown said the weekend trade also had a different demographic with people coming from Wellington and Manawatu to visit.
Greytown is definitely a fashion destination, said Sue Anders, who is shifting her store Jayah with Soul from Martinborough into the former Stihl Shop.
"It's always been known as that."
Mrs Anders said it was Greytown's location on State Highway Two that attracted her but also the new store's space was three times the size of her former shop.
She said the store had done well in Martinborough with its "middle of the road prices" but Greytown captured more people passing through.
"It's still close enough for my fabulous Martinborough customers."
The store is set have its grand opening on March 22 and will stock women's clothing as well as a new designer children's wear range, said Mrs Anders.
"Moving forward, we intend to specialise in clothing for the voluptuous."
Former Wellingtonian Ellen Fowler, an artist who designs and makes dresses, has just opened her store Couture Cottage in Greytown's Main St.
After passing through the town many times to visit her grandchildren in Masterton, she saw the benefits in moving there.
"There's lots of things always happening in Greytown and the climate is great."
Mrs Fowler, who has more than 30 years experience in the fashion industry, said her work in Wellington was quite intense and helped push her to Greytown. "I thought why not get a little cottage and go back to what I started doing but on a smaller scale?"
She said in Greytown she also has the opportunity to grow her business which specialises in her own designer clothing, jewellery and art.
