Hundreds of schoolchildren from Hokitika to Ahaura - including every primary school in Greymouth - massed in Rugby Park, Greymouth, this morning for a tilt at the Guinness World Record for a continuous high-five chain.
The record is currently held in the United States with 1647 high-fives, but Greymouth organiser Maria Swinburn was hoping to break the 2000 mark.
Participating children had to do their high-fives in a chain, two at a time.
The Greymouth attempt was run as a fundraiser for various local charities. The official count was still under way early this afternoon.
