Helen Clark told yesterday's Grey Power meeting in Hamilton that her party's rates rebate policy and the other six pledges which would be announced in the weeks before the election, were "cast-iron".
Speaking to an audience of 230, she was cheered when she said she disagreed that young people were better off renting houses than buying, because home ownership was "deep in the Kiwi psyche".
To more applause, she said Labour's nuclear-free policy would not change.
