Grey Power is accusing the Government of ageism.
The Government is considering scrapping the tertiary education allowance for people aged over the age of 65.
But Grey Power spokeswoman Judy Lamont says many older people are having to return to work after losing money through the collapse of finance companies.
She says some of those people need further education to upskill themselves, and removing the tertiary allowance is morally wrong.
Ms Lamont says older people are also the backbone of volunteer services in the country.
She says if all the older people dropped out of volunteer work much of New Zealand would literally come to a stand still.
