The weather over the week-end was quite hot, but possibly not as hot as the scoring.
On Saturday, the club competition was a medal round, and Greg Granich ensured that the handicapper will be looking very closely at his handicap after he returned a nett score of 59.
That was good enough to take out the second group from Michelle Coley on 66 nett, while Trish Gallon got the nod of those on 67 nett to make it into the prize list.
The top group went to Fred Brittain with a nett 64, with Wayne Evans the runner up on 67 nett. Ian Race, plating his first round for over six months, took third place with a score of 70 nett, with a couple of others on that score missing out.
In the women's LGU round, Rose Alexander took out the Silver division with a 70 nett from Ngaire Graham on 73. In the Bronze Division, it was Michelle Coley on 66 nett at the top, followed by Trish Gallon and Cilva Richmond on 67 netts.
The Solway Pie Shop nearest to the pin at the first hole was won by Fred Brittain, and the Solway Butchery one at the eighth went to Steve Hargood. Wayne Evans took out the one on the third hole, Matthew Biel the sixth, Graeme Dick the tenth and Ron Hutcheson the seventeenth. Holes in two were aplenty, with Matthew Biel, Greg Granich, Fred Brittain, Graeme Dick, Steve Hargood, Ron Hutcheson and Ray Loader getting one each, and Rose Alexander got two and the "bird's nest".
If you thought a 59 nett on Saturday was quite good, then the winner of the nett in the Dick Haira Memorial Tournament on Sunday make that pale in comparison. Ted Collins finished with a 57 nett score for the day, and his stableford score of 51 points was made on only sixteen of the holes.
In the women's division, Anita Karaitiana took out the nett competition on 70 nett and Ngaire Graham the stableford with 41 points.
Bruce Herangi had the best gross score of 72, which was three strokes ahead of Ivan Karaitiana. Alf Puhara had the day's second best nett of 63, a score that would normally be a winning one. In the stableford, Bill Graham and Mark Ward both finished with 40 points.
Ivan Karaitiana scored the only hole in two for the day.
On Tuesday, the veteran's group played in a bisque par round. The best of the women was Cilva Richmond with a score of 14 up in taking out the second group from Daphne Jordan on 13 up. Janet Campbell took out the top group with a score of 13 up, while Mei Hakaraia was in second place in that group on 11 up.
John Harp took out the second men's group with the day's best result of 15 up. Bill Christiansen was the runner up on 13 up, followed by a visitor in Gordon Wilton on 12 up. Len Christall took out the top group with a score of 14 up, with Bruce Wilson next best on 11up and Bill Graham on 10 up.
The women's nearest to the pins went to Mei Hakaraia on the third hole and Daphne Jordan on the sixth. Bruce Wilson took out he men's one on the sixth and Alby Haley the seventh. The only hole in two for the day was recorded by Ross Ireland.
Next Tuesday's competition for the veterans will be a stableford round.
This coming week-end will see the men and women combining for the first round of the Ward Memorial Trophy on Saturday, when the competition will be a stableford round.
Sunday was to have seen the Triangular Shoot Out final for the men, but that has now been postponed to the following Sunday. So on Sunday the competition will be a stableford round.
