The Greens want a ban on all soft drinks being sold at schools.
The party is taking heart at a move in Australia to remove sugared drinks from schools and is welcoming the possibility of a similar voluntary ban in New Zealand.
Green MP Sue Kedgley wants it to include diet drinks, because she says they contain unhealthy additives.
She says children and their health should come first and she is writing to Coca Cola and Pepsi to urge them to remove all their product ranges from schools.
