The Greens are likely to back a National-initiated select committee inquiry into aspects of Noel Ingram's report into Taito Phillip Field's actions, giving National the majority it needs.
Greens co-leader Jeanette Fitzsimons said her party was concerned the findings of the Ingram report, into Mr Field's business dealings with constituents and people seeking immigration visas, bring into question the integrity of MPs and Parliament as a whole.
Dr Ingram's report cleared Mr Field of any conflict of interest between his role as a minister and his private life, although questioned his judgement.
Ms Fitzsimons said she planned to discuss the merits of a select committee inquiry with her colleagues this morning.
She said such an inquiry could do little but publish a report, so the Greens are considering alternative ways in which Parliament can deal with the issues.
No select committee other than the privileges committee can examine an MP's behaviour.
National is likely to opt for a Foreign Affairs select committee inquiry so it can examine immigration matters.
