The Government has told the United Nations that New Zealand will take the lead in international research on reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions.
Economic Development Minister Trevor Mallard was speaking yesterday at a meeting called by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon ahead of the Climate Change Conference in Bali in December.
Mr Mallard said New Zealand would be a "technology-taker" in other areas but wanted to lead innovation in agriculture.
