Green MP Keith Locke yesterday likened New Zealand's treatment of suspected terrorist Ahmed Zaoui to the regime of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe.
He made the comparison in Parliament when Foreign Minister Phil Goff was being questioned about Mr Mugabe's campaign to oppose former New Zealand Foreign Minister Don McKinnon as Commonwealth Secretary-General.
Mr Goff said the difference was that the New Zealand Government operated within the rule of law.
Mr Zaoui, a former Algerian politician, has been in prison since December.
