KEY POINTS:
Forty-two parents have settled against Auckland's Green Lane Hospital in a case over dead babies and children whose organs were removed without consent.
The hospital took the hearts and other organs of around 1300 babies and children for around 50 years until 2001, admitting the practice in 2002. Many were taken without permission.
Some of the parents had been seeking $70,000 in damages, but a trial due to begin in Wellington in October had been called off after a confidential settlement was reached, the Sunday Star-Times reported.
The settlement included damages of $5000 a person, an apology, and a denial of liability by the Crown.
