The Kuranui College annual theatre production Oh What A Lovely War opened with matinee performances for primary schools and rest homes.
Kuranui College spokeswoman Catherine Rossiter-Stead said the matinee performances on Tuesday and Wednesday came ahead of evening performances later in the week starting at 7pm in the college auditorium.
Oh What A Lovely War is an award-winning musical multimedia/documentary drama that "summarises and strongly comments" on the story of WW I using popular songs of the time, Mrs Rossiter-Stead said.
"Many of these songs are much older popular songs that have been sarcastically re-worded by the soldiers serving on the front lines."
The scenes in the production are based on actual events and people, she said.
