Great Barrier kidnap accused appears in court

A man charged with kidnapping his girlfriend on Great Barrier Island last year has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting her on another occasion.

Nathan Boulter, 22, appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning via audiovisual link from Auckland Central Remand Prison charged with male assaults female.

He is facing separate High Court charges for allegedly abducting his former girlfriend on the island in the Hauraki Gulf in January last year.

He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Boulter's counsel requested that the assault matter be adjourned for one month because a resolution was close.

Judge Claire Ryan said the case was taking far too long and Boulter would need to enter a plea at his next appearance.

"I have very grave concerns that resolution has been talked about since October and it's now February. That's inexplicable."

However, she granted the adjournement.

Boulter was further remanded in custody until his next appearance in February.
