Firefighters last night battled a blaze at a farm on Great Barrier Island.
Four off-duty firefighters staying at a hotel spotted flames coming from a house on Shoal Bay Rd, south of Tryphena, about 9.20pm.
They rushed to the scene and helped the house's residents.
They were joined by the rural fire brigade and water trucks.
Fire Service spokesman Paul Radden said it had been feared the flames would ignite a fuel tank on the property.
