Grant for ASB showgrounds facelift

Auckland's ASB showgrounds will get a grant of up to $4.7 million to help with a facelift.

Prime Minister Helen Clark said more than 140 shows and exhibitions, attracting 1.2 million visitors, had been held at the showgrounds last year. However, there was little doubt the facility required a significant investment if it was to attract events in the 21st century, she said.

"This grant is earmarked for the construction of a new exhibition hall which will increase the exhibition space by 50 per cent," Helen Clark said.
