Queen Elizabeth Park's ranger will patrol the park only on weekends up until Easter, but one Masterton woman said she believes he should remain on duty all year round.
Great-grandmother Jo Guddop has been helped by the park ranger, employed by Masterton District Council, on a few occasions and would like to see him stay on duty.
She approached the ranger last Friday after an incident with the new Exeloo facility, and discovered he wouldn't be working in the park much longer. The ranger had previously helped her with the flying fox while she was looking after three children.
Mrs Guddop said it was "sad and wrong" not to have a ranger all year round, and thought it may be a case of penny pinching.
Parks and facilities manager Grant Hathaway said there has been a park warden each summer for a number of years.
