Convicted killer Graeme Burton appeared in court today, charged with trying to kill a fellow inmate.
Burton was charged after allegedly attacking another inmate with a knife in Auckland Prison at Paremoremo on December 20.
He entered no plea to a single charge of attempted murder and was remanded to appear again on January 19.
Burton, 38, is serving a life sentence with a minimum non-parole period of 26 years for killing Lower Hutt man Karl Kuchenbecker in January 2007.
He was on parole at the time, after serving a 14-year sentence for murdering Paul Anderson outside a Wellington nightclub in 1992.
Burton - who lost a leg following a shoot-out
with police at the time of his 2007 arrest - appeared in court surrounded by three prison officers and handcuffed to a fourth.
