After a month in Australia, Ben Newlove has no plans to return to New Zealand.
The 23-year-old moved to Sydney fresh out of university because he found there weren't enough jobs at home, though the lure of his Australian girlfriend played its part.
"It's the best of both worlds. There's the cultural similarities so you can slide right in kind of senselessly but at the same time there's so much more going on here than there is in New Zealand," he said. "I can happily see myself living here for a long period of time."
Mr Newlove, from the North Shore, has a BA in sociology and geology from Auckland University. He aims to work in the field of geographic information systems, or spatial science.
"I suppose that's quite a niche area ... and there are just more of those opportunities over here," Mr Newlove said. "But the job market in general, there's just more opportunities - not only for graduates, but for everyone, really."
