The Government's response to the Royal Commission's report on Auckland's local government structure will be announced tomorrow, Prime Minister John Key said today.
The report recommended creating a "super city" run by a single authority with urban and rural wards.
Mr Key said the Cabinet discussed the report today and there was "extensive and wide-ranging" debate about its recommendations.
He would not give any details of the Government response at his post-cabinet press conference.
"I want to do it in Auckland," he told reporters.
Mr Key and Local Government Minister Rodney Hide will make the announcement at about 2pm.
