Homeowners in Christchurch's quake-hit red zones, who have offers from the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority expiring next month, are being urged to check that they have signed and returned the agreement.
The first letters of offer from Cera were dated August 19, 2011, meaning that agreements for the sale of those properties must be logged by May 19, 2012.
If residents don't return the agreement in time, they will forfeit the government offer to buy their land.
A Christchurch law firm says it has fielded "dozens" of new enquiries from homeowners in the red zone worried about which was the best Cera option for them.
Law firm partner Richard Lang said that while the decision on whether to take the offer or not is a difficult one, he warned that Cera is refusing to budge on the nine-month deadline.
