Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae had his final audience with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth yesterday.
Sir Jerry's five-year term as the personal representative of New Zealand's Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II finishes the end of August.
Yesterday, Sir Jerry and his wife Lady Janine met with the Queen at Buckingham Palace in London for the last time in his capacity as Governor-General.
Afterwards, they lunched together at the 300-year-old official London residence of Britain's monarchy, a Government House spokeswoman said.
Sir Jerry is tipped to be New Zealand's next High Commissioner to London.
