KEY POINTS:
Governor-General Anand Satyanand has broken his ankle and been forced to cut back on his engagements.
Mr Satyanand accidentally rolled his right ankle in Christchurch on Wednesday morning and an x-ray in Wellington yesterday revealed that he had broken a bone, a spokesman for Government House said.
His lower leg and foot are in a cast and he is on crutches.
Doctors have told Mr Satyanand to rest his leg for at least a week, when it is hoped the plaster cast can be removed and replaced with a walking cast.
The fracture in no way affected his ability to carry out his constitutional roles, the spokesman said.
