The Government will pay for veterans of the Battle of Monte Cassino to attend the 60th anniversary commemorations in May.
Veterans Affairs Minister George Hawkins said yesterday: "Special funding is being made available to all Monte Cassino veterans wishing to travel independently to the commemorations."
The Government had been criticised for planning to take only about 20 veterans on the Air Force plane.
