KEY POINTS:
The government is giving $100,000 to help with flood relief in the Solomon Islands.
A state of emergency has been declared after heavy rain caused significant flooding in Guadalcanal Province over the past week.
Nine people have died in the floods and over 1000 families from 270 villages have been forced to leave their homes.
Foreign Minister Murray McCully said infrastructure and food crops had also been extensively damaged and more rain was expected.
The money would be channelled through NZAID and distributed to groups managing the disaster response and helping affected communities, he said.
The funding would also help the Guadalcanal provincial government establish a disaster centre and charter ships to help with the relief effort where road access has been cut.
"Having recently visited the Solomons, I am acutely aware of how devastating the floods will be for a people who already face daily hardships," Mr McCully said.
