The Government is set to toughen up penalties for driving offences.
Prime Minister Helen Clark told journalists yesterday that the Cabinet had made decisions on a number of road safety initiatives.
Transport Safety Minister Harry Duynhoven would announce changes in the run-up to Christmas.
"It's actually legislative changes that are going to be imposed to make it clear that unsafe driving behaviour is going to face more stiff penalties," Helen Clark said.
