The Government is backing Auckland's bid to gain control of rail corridors.
Transport Minister Mark Gosche and Auckland Issues Minister Judith Tizard met council representatives yesterday to discuss Government support for the $112 million deal planned to ease the region's transport problems.
Yesterday was the deadline for the Government to give its support in principle - needed before the deal can go ahead - but the parties decided to extend the deadline until March 31 to "resolve relevant issues."
