A large gorse fire threatened three houses near Wellington's southern coast this morning.
Seven fire trucks were called to the 200 sq m fire off Hungerford Rd in suburban Houghton Bay about 11.20am.
The fire had threatened three houses in the area, but firefighters brought it under control within two hours.
A central fire communications spokeswoman said the cause of the blaze was not yet known.
