Hastings police are appealing for a good samaritan who came to their aid while they were being attacked last night to come forward.
Acting Senior Sergeant Darren Pritchard said today the two man patrol was attacked after responding to calls of a man behaving suspiciously in Maraekakaho Road about 6pm.
A male member of the public stopped and assisted them in arresting the offender.
"Police were extremely grateful for the assistance and I would ask that man to come forward so we can thank him for his actions," Mr Pritchard said.
