A 26-year-old man who helped stop an attack on a woman in Mt Roskill has been praised by police for his actions.
The woman was being punched by a man through the driver's window of the car she was sitting in, at about 8.45pm yesterday in the Auckland suburb.
The man, who police have hailed as a 'Good Samaritan', confronted the attacker and subdued him, then detained him with the help of neighbours.
Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Fabish of Avondale CIB said the young man's efforts were "gutsy". He was checked for an injury to the hand, but came out of the ordeal comparatively unscathed.
"The woman was treated in hospital for her injuries and we're all grateful they were less serious than they could have been had the young man not intervened.
