The man accused of stabbing the "good samaritan" Austin Hemmings in downtown Auckland last year has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance this morning.
Pauesi Leofa Brown has been remanded in custody by consent after changing his lawyer.
His new lawyer Barry Hart asked two Justices of the Peace for a new date for a depositions hearing so he could get more evidence from the Crown.
"That's been necessary because we're asking for rather more evidence than the former counsel," Mr Hart said.
Brown stood in the dock with his hands clasped in front of him as the two JPs granted Mr Hart's request.
A two day hearing has been set down at the Auckland District Court in October.
Mr Hemmings, a Devonport father of three, was fatally stabbed after going to the aid of a woman in Auckland's central business district on September 25 last year.
