Saturday was the Christmas Cheer, which was well attended with 129 contestants from several clubs in the area plus a group of women from Levin. I am told the Levin club was holding a men-only competition, so a group of the women said, "If you can play, so can we!"
They certainly had a good day, with many of them collecting prizes, and many contestants took home a turkey or ham (I got half a dozen mince tarts for playing like a turkey).
Also of note was a new course record set by young Sheridan Rangihuna, from Manor Park, with a gross 66. Sheridan, playing off a one handicap, scored 42 Stableford points; a great achievement.
The prize list went quite a way down, so the first six in each group are the only ones listed.
Men: The first group 0-14 was won by David Wills with 44 points, followed by Sheridan Rangihuna 42, Lyn Evans 40, Mark Graham 39, Greg Martin and Piri Gillies 39.
Group two 15-21 was won by Jim Harris with 42 points, followed by John Braiden and George Rink 41, Tony McCarthy, Russ Morgan and Erik De Gans all on 40.
Group three 21-plus was won by Les Cherry with 45 points, next were Ralph Day, Mark Pincock and Bill Shakespeare all with 42, Ash Braggins 41 and Ray Morris 40.
Women: The first group, 0-19, was won by a visitor from Levin, Judith Walton, with 43 points, followed by young Katie Smart with 40 and Pam Fitzgerald 39. The next three places were also taken by the visiting Levin women, Janice Hesp 37, Jo Parker and Rosie Priest 36.
Group two 19-plus was won by Ngarie Taylor; next was Margaret Bradshaw and Pauline Craig 44, Gay Martin and Shirley Calder (Levin) 43 and Caral Rink with 42.
Twos for the men were scored by Phil Archibald, Ross Collings, Bevan Lambess, Russ Morgan and Sheridan Rangihuna. For the women, twos were scored by, Josephine Jensen and Jo Parker (both from Levin), Jocelyn Pollock (Masterton), Caral Rink, Bev Tregurtha and Judith Walton (Levin).
Vets: No results for the Vets as the competition was a modified course made up of all par threes.
The game was followed by the Vets' annual Christmas Lunch. Wine was provided once more by Peter Cottier. There will also be a "haggle on Tuesday.
Twilight: Winner was Brayden Mazey with +7, followed by Greg Martin, Ray Clarke, Katie Smart and Graham Hutchby all with +6.
Plumbing World NTP No12 Dave Wills, Greytown Community Store NTP Greg Martin and ATU NP for two Barry Bentley.
