The Martinborough club is still talking about that wonderful tournament the week before - Stuart McLeod spoke in such a manner there were quite a few with tears in their eyes; thank you Stu for your input - it was great.
To the Thursday Club - members who went to Ngawi had a ball which has now become an annual event. Unfortunately we lost, but thanks to Ali Holmes and his crew from down there. Brad Nicholson and Roger Parkinson were both winners on 43 points and Nicholas Meatyard was third with 41, followed by Tom Bunny in fourth place with 39. Roger also got a two and was closest to the pin as well.
Speaking of the Thursday Club - I went and saw George Webby in hospital last Friday and he is coming along just fine and hopes to be out in a couple of weeks. He hasn't lost his sense of humour, so here's to a speedy recovery, George.
Saturday was the club's closing day and I can't believe the turnout. I didn't realise we had so many women playing at the club and "Osama bin Golfin" aka Bob Goodley setting the trend in his new headwear to keep out the sun!
Poppy Hammond took out the top prize with 46 points, which included six points for her eagle on No15. Runner-up was Sylvia Beavis with 44, third was Helen Kirk on 43, followed by Shirley Rattray and Marilyn Mackenzie sharing fourth with 42.
The winner of the junior division was Garry Paterson with 46 points. Runners-up were Bruce Ward, Chris Cole, Ian Henderson and Neil Smith, all with 43 (I can't believe Wardy is in this division - he hits the ball a country mile!).
The winner of the seniors was Brad Nicholson with 45 points; runner-up was "Osama bin' Goodley with 44 and Derek Stephens and Doug Clark sharing third with 41.
All prize divisions went down to 10 places so it was a great result for all who entered. Sponsors for the day were Jenny and Karen from the Pukemanu; you helped make the day successful, so thank you very much.
The final of the shootout was played on Sunday - a great day held in great weather and wonderful spirit. Green keeper Darren was the first to go; Lance Phelps went out on No8 after trying to putt out of the bunker, while Alistair Boyne played brilliantly till his downfall on No13. Bill Jones three-putted No16, while son-in-law Derek Stephens went out on No17 in a three-way chip-out.
But it was Doug Clark who took the honours with "Osama bin" Goodley second. Congratulations Doug; every year you put so much into the shootout - the food and beverages were excellent and so to all who took part, well done.
