Labour Weekend was a busy one for the Carterton Golf Club with the annual Bucket Tournament and the Labour Day Mini Tournament. For once the weather behaved itself.
Wednesday was a Stableford round for the women. First with 40 points was Val Willis, followed by Lyn Morrell 37, Margaret Bradshaw 36, Barbara Birchall and Ngaire Taylor 34. All Teed Up NTP was won by Val Willis, New World NTP Margaret Bradshaw and Clareville Nursery NTP Corrie Van Zanten. There was just one two scored by Lyn Morrell.
BUCKET TOURNAMENT
This is a popular tournament played on Saturday, with 89 players from around the area turning up to play. The holes are some three to four times larger than the regulation hole, which accounts for the fairly high Stableford scores. Some players suggest they should be that size all the time!
MEN: There were 49 men split into three groups.
Group One: First was Bevan Lambess with 48 points, followed by Eric Collings 47, Ross Collings 44, David Wills and Stu Ingham 43, Lyn Evans 41, Bill Crook and Lyall Callaghan, both from Martinborough 40.
Group Two: The winner with 50 points was Martin Gregory, followed by Max Baylis 47, Mark Graham 46, John Tomlinson (Boulcott) 44, Dean Schaef and Adam Birchall 42, Craig Wilson 40 and Harry Ackerman (Waikanae) 38.
Group Three: First was Ray Morris with 47 points, followed by Chris De Ridder (Boulcott) 44, Frank Delaney and George Rink 43, Richard Chapman and Peter Woodcock 42, Duncan Pincock 40 and R. Fryer (Pahiatua) 38.
WOMEN: There were 40 women split into two groups.
Group One: Janet Pincock took first place with 45 points, followed by Pam Griffith (Masterton) 44, Val Willis 43, Sereana Phillipps (Masterton), Gay Martin and Bev Tregurtha 42, Lesley Sadler and Barbara Birchall 40.
Group Two: In first place was Margaret Bradshaw with 48 points well ahead of the next place Sarah Haskell with 41. They were followed by Mary Edwards 39, Pauline Craig and Sue Braiden 38, Todd Beverley (Mahunga) 37, Flo Watkins 35 and Ngaire Taylor 33.
NTP on #6 was Ross Collings, #12 Frank Delaney, #9 Ash Braggins and #15 John Tomlinson.
LABOUR DAY MINI TOURNAMENT.
The weather was fine with not much wind, which made playing conditions very good with the course again in excellent condition. There was one group for the women and one for the men, with a smaller turnout of 37 players.
MEN: There were 23 for the competition played on the Labour Day Monday.
First with 43 points was Les Cherry, followed by Ray Morris 40, David Wills 38, George Kirk (Martinborough), Stu Ingham and Bevan Lambess 37.
WOMEN: There were 14 entered for the competition, which was won by Beverley Todd, a visitor from Mahunga, with 35 points, followed by Corrie Van Zanten and Anne Brewer 34 and Val Willis and Lesley Sadler 33.
Twos were scored by George Kirk (Martinborough) Ray Morris, Miria Te Tau and Corrie Van Zanten. NTP #6 Bevan Lambess, #6 Anne Brewer #9, #12 Ray Morris and #15 Lyn Evans.
There was no competition for the Vets during the week.
