Golf skills day for Featherston juniors

Featherston Golf Club held a free Junior Golf coaching session on Saturday, with the youngest participants practising with five-irons to drive tennis balls towards a painted target.

One child managed to connect with the Times-Age photographer, with an ironic "fore!" from the parents seated at the benches.

On the putting green, the older children were instructed on lining up the hole.

Assistant pro Joel Macklin said they had over 30 children, which was a "fantastic turnout" for the club's first junior coaching session.

They had previously had a successful one at Martinborough, Macklin said.

"I didn't think the numbers would be as good as this," he said.

Club member Brian Russo said because of the popularity of the session on Saturday, they would hold another coaching day on Friday, October 16, with the possibility of weekly sessions in the summer.
