KEY POINTS:
Police will today search a golf course as they continue to hunt for missing Christchurch woman Tisha Lowry.
Detective Senior Sergeant Virginia Le Bas said the Avondale golf course search had not been sparked by a breakthrough in the case, rather that it was a matter of process.
"It's a local area and it's something that we should go and cover off," she said.
Ms Lowry, 28, disappeared without trace on the morning of September 25, after leaving the Bower Tavern in suburban Aranui to walk to her grandfather's home nearby.
Initial reports said she had been seen walking along Wainoni Rd in the company of a man, however, Ms Le Bas said police now believed the person who reported the sighting had been a bit confused and Ms Lowry had probably not been with anyone.
"We've now gone through that and think that that's probably not correct."
Police located a knife during a search yesterday, but Ms Le Bas said had not been linked to anything yet.
"It doesn't appear to be relevant to the inquiry but we won't completely dismiss it."
She said police had received reports from the public of possible sightings of Ms Lowry but none had come to fruition.
"We had some very good sightings from some people yesterday that thought they saw her in a supermarket so we did quite a bit of work on that yesterday. They were mistaken but this person was of a very good likeness," she said.
"It's good that people are thinking about it ... but we're still not getting a lot of information, whether it's because people don't have it I don't know."
About 35 officers were working on the inquiry and everyone was remaining positive, Ms Le Bas said.
"Everyone working on the investigation is very motivated to find her. There is a lot of work to still be done."
