Bella Biggs spearheaded a fine overall performance by Carterton swimmers at the national junior championships held in Wellington and Auckland during the weekend.
The talented Biggs won gold medals for registering the fastest national times in the 11-year-old girls' 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley events, and provisionally broke no fewer than five Wairarapa age group records.
Her 200m individual time of 2m, 39.73s was notable as it broke the long-standing record held by Ashley McDougall of 2m 40.35s.
Apart from her two golds, Biggs also picked up silver medals in the 200m backstroke and in the 200m freestyle and was a bronze medallist in the 100m backstroke.
The Russell Geange-coached Carterton contingent returned 18 personal best times from 27 swims. Will McMaster also took the boys' 10 years and under event with a seventh placing in the 200m backstroke.
First session results were published yesterday.
