The Government is giving $20,000 to a fund set up in the name of slain diplomat Bridget Nichols.
Ms Nichols died after being stabbed a week ago in the Solomon Islands, where she was New Zealand deputy high commissioner.
The fund has been set up by the Wellington District Law Society in honour of Ms Nichols.
The money in it would be used to help other New Zealanders wanting to work with people in need in developing countries.
Ms Nichols was a former Wellington lawyer.
Her funeral is being held today.
Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff said yesterday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade would contribute $20,000 to the Bridget Nichols Trust Fund.
He congratulated the law society for setting up the fund.
The fund was "to honour an exceptional New Zealander who was a first class lawyer and a fine representative of our country who dedicated her career to the public good", said Mr Goff.
