In Schaefer's mind it was the first time this season they had come anywhere near to producing a complete performance.
"It was good, really good, " he said.
"We talked a lot before the game about starting well and applying the pressure all the way through, and we pretty much did that."
So quickly did Dalefield hit their straps, in fact, that even when Hutt scored the first goal of the match against the run of play, Schaefer was not the least concerned.
"We had been so dominant it was just a matter of time before we started putting the ball in the back of the net - we always looked in control," he said.
By halftime, Dalefield had gone from 1-0 down to 3-1 up.
In the second half they managed three goals to one.
The Dalefield tactics revolved mostly around a short passing game and Schaefer was delighted with the accuracy of their passing and their assertive approach, both on and off the ball.
"Against good teams like Hutt you have to retain the ball because they are so dangerous on the counter attack, and we did that well.
"Some of the support play was really outstanding."
Wairarapa College pupil Gus Wakeling was part of the Dalefield starting line-up for the first time at right half and he had a fine game.
At the top of the pops in the goal scoring stakes was the experienced Rowan Yeo, who finished with a hat-trick and was a constant thorn in the side of the Hutt defence.
Other goal scorers for Dalefield were the hard working skipper Dane Lett, Joseph Robertson and Tane Workman.
Other premier division matches saw Northern United beat Indians 3-2 and Harbour City beat Victoria University 3-2.
Dalefield leads the points table with 30, followed by Hutt 20, Indians 15, Harbour City 13, Northern United 10 and Victoria University 9.
Next Saturday will see Dalefield hosting Harbour City at Clareville.
