Go-ahead for library on Birkenhead reserve

A proposal to build a Birkenhead library and civic centre on a landmark reserve has been approved by planning commissioners.

The decision for rezoning of reserve land to allow the building comes after two days of hearing 219 submissions, including those from 58 residents who wanted it left as open space.

The decision saves four big trees from removal.
