Although Aboriginal Australians account for 2.5% of the population, they make up a quarter of all male and a third of all female prisoners.
The National Indigenous Drug and Alcohol Committee (NIDAC) is asking for investment into alternative drug and alcohol rehabilitation services for indigenous Austrlians in order to treat the root cause of many of these offences: substance abuse.
