Global economy's state dissected

If you wonder how long the international finance system's house of cards will survive, then a meeting being held tomorrow night could be of interest.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on November 16: "Six years on from the financial crash that brought the world to its knees, red warning lights are once again flashing on the dashboard of the global economy."

Nicole Foss, described as a leading Canadian finance and energy analyst, will be in Masterton tomorrow night, hosted by Sustainable Wairarapa, the Living Economies Educational Trust and the Masterton District Council.

At the public meeting, Ms Foss will offer an overview and update of the world's financial instability and will explore possible local solutions and how to avoid pitfalls.

She will also talk about how to lay the groundwork for partnership building.

Ms Foss is past editor of The Oil Drum Canada, for which she wrote on peak oil and finance. She also ran the Agri-Energy Producers Association in Ontario, focusing on farm-based biogas projects, grid connections for renewable energy and Feed-in tariff policy development.

She has also specialised in nuclear safety in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

The public meeting will be held in the Frank Cody Lounge in Masterton Town Hall at 7.30pm tomorrow. Entry is by donation.
