ACC beneficiary Raymond Cooper is "disgusted" that his payee identification is ZZWANK and believes it is the result of an argument with his caseworker.
ACC believes the offensive identification is the result of a computer glitch that failed to screen out the inappropriate word.
Mr Cooper has been on and off ACC since a serious car accident in 1989 which cost him his leg, a finger, broke an arm and caused other serious injuries.
He says last week he had an argument with his case manager in Auckland after he had had to wait for a $90 refund on a bill he had paid.
"We had a few words. I was a little bit upset about not having money for food and other things," he said.
When he finally received the $90, he was shocked by the payee ID and user ID at the top of the page.
Not only was his payee ID noted as "ZZWANK", the invoice number was "AAHLAH", which concerned Mr Cooper because of the religious overtones.
ACC media adviser Fraser Folster publicly apologised for the code, and said it had been removed.
