Oamaru's Harbour St got the World War I treatment during filming yesterday.
The historic street will be used for filming for the week for an installation dedicated to the Anzacs, to go on display at the new Sir John Monash Media Centre, near Villers-Bretonneux, in France.
Waitaki deputy mayor Melanie Tavendale, who watched some of the action yesterday morning, said it was "quite cool" sitting in a Harbour St cafe watching Anzac troops marching down the street past the window.
The scene was smoky with barbed wire barricades at the north end of the street.
"It felt very authentic," she said. "Not that I've ever been to a war zone before."
